Decorated British Army veteran Bill Shaw MBE, who was released from a notorious Afghan jail last year after a successful
media campaign by Edwards Harvey, tells his story in a new book Kill Switch.
Following
Bill’s wrongful imprisonment for allegedly bribing a government official, Edwards Harvey organised the ‘Free Bill
Shaw’ media campaign on behalf of the Shaw family, to raise awareness of Bill’s plight and to gain public support.
Media relations included TV, radio, newspaper and digital channels which swiftly gained a worldwide audience. Additional
activity enlisted the support of Dover MP Charlie Elphicke, who raised Bill’s case in the House of Commons; an online
petition which was handed to Downing Street; and a campaign leaflet distributed at key sporting events, shopping centres,
pubs, and used for an online viral campaign across the globe.
It took just over three months to get Bill released from
the hell-hole Pul-e-Charkhi jail where Taliban
fighters and Guantanamo Bay detainees are held. His life was under constant threat as a bounty was put on his head.
