The family of Bill Shaw MBE has launched a campaign to free him from a notorious Afghanistan jail where he
is imprisoned following a sham trial at a Kabul court on April 26.
Bill,
a decorated veteran who served 28 years in the British Army, was wrongly convicted of bribery and sentenced to two years in
prison. The charges against him were totally misconceived and not proven in court.
He believed he was making a legitimate payment to an official Afghan security department to retrieve his employer’s
vehicles. Bill repeatedly requested a receipt at the time of payment and afterwards, but none was given. He made the release
fee payment in good faith, openly and transparently. It was fully documented and approved in accordance with his company's
procedures.
The family is completely shocked by the judgement which
runs against the principles of natural justice. Bill is a real family man, a father of three children and a grandfather of
two and yet he faces two years in an Afghanistan prison for a crime he did not commit. It is important to the family that
people understand Bill is a man of the highest possible ethical and moral standards who has served his country with distinction
for more than 30 years, both while in the Royal Military Police and working to support reconstruction efforts in Iraq and
Afghanistan.
The family is calling on the Afghan and British authorities
to urgently overturn this patently unfair judgement. They need your support to back the campaign.
