Nausicaa, The
French National Sea Experience Centre in Boulogne, is one of France’s
top 10 visitor attractions and is also a major centre for educational and scientific initiatives relating to the understanding
and conservation of the world’s oceans.
Managers at
Nausicaa were happy with the centre’s print media profile in the UK
but were disappointed with the lack of coverage on radio and television. Edwards Harvey was recruited to run a focused one
month campaign to remedy this.
Following a
brief period of detailed research, including a site visit to interview senior managers and operational staff, we identified
certain activities at the centre that would serve as media-friendly “hooks” to the subject, such as diving with
sharks and cleaning a sea lion’s teeth.
We focused
a number of innovative editorial sponsorship and competition ideas on producers making programmes in the environmental, educational
and tourism fields in the UK.
By gaining
a thorough understanding of the subject and talking to the right people, Edwards Harvey managed to attract a high degree of
interest in a short period.
Nausicaa was
featured on the radio stations Passion for the Planet and BBC Radio Kent, Reuters international news and features service,
and The Crunch show on Nickelodeon, the most widely distributed children's TV network in Europe and the world.
